Secondary Education Programme: Upper-Secondary School: Swedish
The programme for teaching in upper secondary education is offered on campus and as net-based distance learning. Both forms of learning are fulltime and like campus students, distance students also have scheduled daytime teaching over the internet. They are also required to attend on-campus meetings in Karlstad three-four times per semester.
*Note that the majors sports science and music are only offered on campus.
EducationThe programme for teaching at upper secondary school includes two subjects, a major comprising 120 ECTS credits and a second major comprising 90 ECTS credits. The subjects Swedish and social science always comprise 120 ECTS credits. The education consists of three parts: education core studies, practical placement, and subject and subject-specific teaching methodology. Students start studying their chosen major. Then they move on to study general perspectives on the teaching profession and school and for the rest of the programme, general perspectives alternate with studies in their second major and practical placement.
Form of InstructionThe forms of instruction in the teacher education programme vary from course to course and can, for instance, include seminars, lectures, group exercises, and laboratory sessions. Some course components are mandatory.
ExaminationExamination formats in the teacher education programme vary and can, for instance, include written exams, written reports and essays, oral presentations, and aesthetic forms of representation.
