Risk and environmental issues from a health perspective

The course covers environment-related risks with a focus on vulnerability from the perspective of public health. Concepts and theories of the complex relationships between the environment, risk, and health are introduced. Health aspects of environment-related risk factors such as water pollution, air pollution, and toxicity are highlighted in relation to various vulnerable groups in society. The course introduces the dynamics of health, safety, and climate. People's vulnerability and health problems in connection with disasters are also highlighted, for example as effects of natural disasters and industrial accidents. Students carry out an independent project on environment-related health aspects, which is presented and discussed in a seminar.
