Psychology of Organisations
15.0 ECTS creditsThe course comprises two modules:
Module 1 - Communication and Conversation Skills, 4.5 ECTS cr
The first module introduces concepts and models of how human beings communicate with each other. Factors and processes, which can facilitate or impede communication between people, are presented and discussed. By means of role-plays, which will be recorded and analysed, the student applies skills, concepts and models of scientific communication theory, focusing on the individual, relationship and interaction.
Classes are conducted in the form of lectures, group works, presentations, role-plays and seminars. The module requires students to study the literature independently and to practice conversation skills on their own.
Module 2 - Group, Organisational and Work Psychology, 10.5 ECTS cr.
In the second module, the student acquires basic knowledge in group, organisational and work psychology. To highlight the importance of communication, both for the individual as for the organisation, various kinds of relationships and forms of cooperation at the workplace are presented and discussed. By applying psychological theories and empirical findings, the student discusses psychological effects of work on health and evidence-based strategies aimed at preventing mental illness at the workplace. Finally, to demonstrate that the performance of an organisation is affected by organisational, group psychological and individual factors, the student analyses, under supervision, various processes in organisations and workplaces. The importance of diversity and gender for functional organisations is continuously outlined throughout the course.
Classes are conducted in the form of lectures, group works, presentations, supervisions, exercises and seminars. The module requires students to study the literature independently and to conduct exercises on their own.
Supervision is only provided for the duration of the course. Re-registered students are offered additional supervision if circumstances permit.
