Anesthesia within the dental hygienist´s profession

 7.5 ECTS credits
The course covers the following:
  • The anatomy and medical terminology of the head, neck, and teeth
  • Pain and pain physiology
  • Infection and infection control
  • Pharmacology
  • Prescription of anesthetic preparations
  • Local anesthesia
  • Ergonomics
  • Ethical and professional approach
  • Clinical placement (VFU)
During the clinical placement, students administer anesthesia under supervision and based on assessment materials and anesthesia records. At least 15 uses of infiltration anesthesia and at least 10 nerve block/mandibular nerve blocks must be completed before the clinical assessment at Karlstad University.

Progressive specialisation: G2F (has at least 60 credits in first‐cycle course/s as entry requirements)
Education level: Undergraduate level
Admission requirements: Employer selected according to Ordinance (SFS 2002:760), contract education at higher education institutions
Selection: Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
