15.0 ECTS creditsThe course comprises three modules and prepares students for practical placement in music.
Module 1: Music Pedagogy, 7 ECTS cr
The module centres on general music pedagogy with seminar presentations and discussions of texts from current general and music education journals, research, and debates, and includes an introduction to and preparation of their teaching philosophy.
The component ensemble methodology mainly includes seminars on different approaches to leading an ensemble. Students discuss goals, content, and planning, as well as assessment of ensemble performances.
Module 2: Music Theory, 3 ECTS cr
The module includes a step-by-step introduction to sound and music film editing, and music history with a focus on the role and function of popular and art music in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Module 3: Music and Sound Production, 5 ECTS cr
The module introduces legal aspects of music production and related areas relevant to teaching music production in upper secondary schools.
Students also work with a musical production project, and the methodology for teaching music and sound production including practice teaching.
