Music and medicine
7.5 ECTS creditsThe course is designed for students and practitioners in medical, care-providing and musical areas and aims to introduce the relation between music and medicine from an artistic, medical and care-providing perspective. Through theory and practice students develop understanding of how health and well being can be promoted through music. The role of music in this respect is treated from a theoretical and individual-based perspective.
The focus is on theoretical knowledge and reflections on practical applications, The following areas are treated:
- Music and health in the past and the present
- Musical application as a tool for health promoting efforts
- Music in Swedish and international medical and care-providing contexts
- Approaches to using music in medical and care-providing contexts with regard to individual needs
- Organisational and structural conditions for applying music in medical and care-providing contexts.
Instruction is in the form of varied approaches in which the students take an active part, for example case descriptions in seminars, structured group discussions and practical exercises.
