Final Project

The course consists of an independent project, carried out individually or with another student if so required by special circumstances. Special circumstances are:
- studies abroad
- cross-disciplinary studies
- the project requires particularly time-consuming methods
- the project allows for and benefits from more than one participant.

The examiner decides if there are special circumstances. The examiner is responsible for ensuring that each student is individually assessed.

The course requires students to carry out an investigation and author an essay, serve as a peer reviewer and actively participate in a seminar group.

The degree project topic is chosen by the student in consultation with the supervisor. Supervisor and student maintain contact throughout the project period.

Supervision is provided the first time a student is registered for the course. Re-registered students are only offered supervision if circumstances permit, which the examiner decides on student request.

The course also covers research methodology and theory of science.

The degree project comprises the following components:
- problem specification, aim and research questions
- analytical specification and development of purpose, based on background literature
- choice of approach and method
- collecting, analysig and compiling empirical material
- analysis and discussion of material in relation to theory, aim and research questions
- relevant ethical considerations
- a written presentation of the investigation

The final product must have a logical outline and be clearly written in Swedish, or another language if approved by the examiner. Consistent use of standard norms for presenting material and making references (notes and bibliography) is required.

On the approval of the supervisor, the completed essay is submitted to the seminar where it is peer reviewed and discussed by the seminar participants.

Selection:

Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
