Pedagogics for Young Children - Creative Meaning-Making
30.0 ECTS creditsModule 1. Child language development, meaning-making and interaction, 15 ECTS cr.
The module deals with early child communication and language development in terms of the relation between language and learning, and between language and identity formation. Different potentials for language interaction are considered, for instance, the situation of children with a mother tongue other than Swedish. Children's early relations and experiences are studied, as are their ability to create meaning through all senses and forms of expression. The idea of the child as a competent actor is emphasised, also in regard to care needs. Central theories of child development till age 3 are studied.
Module 2. Multiple voices of learning, 15 ECTS cr.
The dialogic, playing and aesthetic child is studied as are young children's ethics and social competence. There is also an emphasis on the educator's role of creating challenging learning opportunities.
Instruction is in the form of lectures, seminars, Workshops, individual work and groupwork. The course is webbased requiring students to participate actively and to shape the content of the weekly themes. Students evaluate the course and their own learning process three times. They are expected to acquire the tools to describe, interpret and understand the practice as the basis of the learning progression towards the final degree project.
