Art History and Visual Studies II
30.0 ECTS creditsModule 1. Global and Regional Art Worlds, 7.5 ECTS cr.
The course centres on art, visual culture and artistic environments in different non-European cultures and regional (Värmland) culture as well as art, art activities and art worlds at the regional and global levels.
Module 2. Art Worlds, Art Museums, Art Education and Public Art, 7.5 ECTS cr.
The course centres on the emergence of public art in Sweden and globally, and how art collections, art museums, art galleries, art criticism and art pedagogy can contribute to enhancing experience and learning as well as maintaining and challenging social value hierarchies. The material is mainly approached from the perspectives of gender, multiculturalism and pedagogy. Students also carry out an art pedagogical exercise and write an art review.
Module 3 Theory and Methods, 7.5 ECTS cr.
Students study and develop skills in applying research methods in the field of art history and visual studies, including the formulation of questions/problem, visual analysis, contextualisation, source criticism, ethical aspects, and referencing.
Module 4 Independent Project, 7.5 ECTS cr.
Students complete a minor independent essay in art history and visual studies on a delimited topic, based on relevant problem formulation, theories and methods. Students develop skills in seeking, using, analysing and interpreting sources and secondary literature, and an understanding of what characterises an aim, a question, demarcation, outline, referencing, academic written presentation and thoroughness in art history and visual studies. All essays are presented and discussed in seminar.

Art History and Visual Studies I, 30 ECTS credits, or equivalent, with 15 ECTS credits completed at course start.
