Pulp and paper technology
2.5 ECTS creditsThe course includes lectures and hand-in assignments on the following topics:
- Fibre suspensions, pulp chemistry and mechanical processing, and their impact on the properties of paper
- The impact of drying and calendering on the properties of paper, as well as headbox, forming, and pressing
- Coating and surface sizing, and their impact on the properties of paper
- Paper testing methods
- Different paper products and conversion operations used for them
- Value-adding efforts in paper manufacturing, and critical factors for the future development of paper products such as access to raw materials, cost of production, sustainability, and the views of customers and consumers on the role of paper in society
The course also includes a project, a specialised study in the main field, reported orally and in writing.

The importance of the raw material for the processes and products of the forest industry (2.5 ECTS credits), or equivalent
