Musical knowledge I, Western classical music

The history of Western classical music from Antiquity to the Baroque is discussed, along with analysis of and exercises in ear training, rhythmics, harmonics and harmonic progression in Western tonal music as well as piano-based reduction and harmonic analysis. Knowledge of instruments and instrumentation and of how notation and sequence programs can be applied in different musical and artistic contexts are treated, as are reflections on the praxis, aesthetics and function of music in society, different approaches to music conventions, and the importance of ear training and theory study to musical development.
