Main instrument I, Western classical music

Students rehearse, interpret and perform a chosen repertoire in Western classical music on their main instrument. The course includes the study of repertoire, style, musical analysis and interpretation with practical applications as well as of techniques and methods for rehearsing and performing. The history and development of the main instrument in the Western classical music tradition is treated. Students also study and practice basic technical exercises and methods for rehearsing and performing a chosen repertoire and train sight-reading of simple to intermediate level music notations. Students whose main instrument is the piano also practise accompaniment and all students play solo and chamber music repertoire for basic instrumental skills. Parts of the repertoire are performed in in-house concerts.Students also reflect on music learning and approaches to music. Instruction is in the form of individual tutorials, seminars and master classes.
