Prehospital emergency care
7.5 ECTS creditsThe course integrates Nursing (2 ECTS cr) and Medical Science (5.5 ECTS cr).
Instruction is in the form of lectures, assignments, seminars, practical exercises, and patient simulator training. This part-time course is partly offered as distance education, partly on campus. Instruction is in some cases concentrated to a number of consecutive days on campus.
Students study pathophysiology with a focus on endocrine diseases, respiratory disorder, circulation disorder, sensory organs, the gastro-intestinal system, and the urinary system. National and international guidelines for the use and handling of pharmaceuticals in prehospital care and their effects and side-effects are treated. Students study and apply structured assessment and decision of care level, along with the nursing and medical treatment of patients with endocrine diseases, respiratory disorder, circulation disorder, sensory organs disorder and intestinal disorder and disorder in the urinary system in a prehospital context. Different triage methods are studied by comparing and assessing indicators in the assessment support information. Prehospital child delivery is included with a focus on observations, delivery techniques, and complications. Qualitative research methodology is also studied in regard to the purpose, data collection, analysis method and credibility of different studies.

Admission requirements
Nursing licence issued by the National Board of Health and Welfare. A nursing degree of at least 180 ECTS credits (including a degree project of 15 ECTS credits) or a Bachelor degree in nursing (including a degree project of 15 ECTS credits), plus at least 12 months full-time work experience as a licensed nurse, plus upper secondary level Swedish 3 or Swedish as a second language 3 and English 6/A, or equivalent
