Master Degree Project in Physical Chemistry I
30.0 ECTS creditsThe course comprises two concomitant components: a literature study and a research project. Instruction is in the form of supervision, individually, in groups, or in combination.
Literature study
Students choose literature relevant to the research project in consultation with their supervisor. This component covers a three-week full-time study period.
Research project
Students choose an applied research project in consultation with the supervisor. The study is conducted in the form of a project in which a question related to current research at the university is addressed. The work should include experiments or other collection of empirical data. Students draw up a project plan consisting of research questions, methods and a time plan. The results of the project are compiled in an individually written report in Swedish or English. Title and abstract must be submitted in both Swedish and English. The report must meet the standard requirements of research ethics and include discussions on:
1. the relation of the research question and results to existing knowledge and current research in the area. The background to the problem and the results yielded, as well as their relation to current research, should meet normal requirements for publication in a scientific journal in terms of scope and quality.
2. possible applications of the results or of other research results related to the research question, and desirable or undesirable consequences of these.
Students submit a popular science summary of the report in both Swedish and English.
The project is presented and discussed at a seminar.
