The module provides deepened knowledge of classic and current theories of relevance to the field of history.
Module 2. Independent project, 15 ECTS cr
Students carry out an individual and independent academic thesis project on the basis of the course in theory and method and develop their skills in critically reviewing and discussing research results.
Alternative 1. Module 3. Modern Sweden Specialisation, 7.5 ECTS cr
The module provides in-depth knowledge of the political, social and economic context of the modern Swedish welfare state. Development trends from 1920 till today are treated along with a number of important turning-points and tendencies, such as the postwar national economic planning debate, immigration and individualisation processes.
Alternative 2. Perspectives on modern Indian history, 7.5 ECTS cr
The module provides enhanced knowledge of the political, cultural, social and economic contexts in India from colonial times till the post-colonial history of the 20th century. The emphasis is on historical interpretations of trends and some important turning-points, for example, the interpretation of the struggle for independence and the various conception of the Indian nation and the nation state.
