The Multifaceted Cultural Heritage

The course deals with how cultural heritage is constructed and represented in historical and contemporary perspectives. The aim is to explore and problematise cultural heritage and the environments in which it is produced, reproduced, disseminated, and used. The course has a multidisciplinary approach in which religion, literature, film, art, and drama studies serve as a complement to historical studies. The course encourages a focus on local and regional examples through study visits and excursions. Students are offered opportunities to hone their analytical skills and identify different lines of development related to issues of gender, class, ethnicity, and identity, and to deepen their understanding of the importance of culture to humankind and communities locally and globally.

The course comprises two modules:
Module 1 The world of ideas and cultural heritage (7.5 ECTS cr)
This module is focused on subject-specific literature in order to explore and problematise how ideas and narratives of cultural heritage have been shaped and reshaped in the past and the present.

Module 2 Cultural heritage environments (7.5 ECTS cr)
In this module, students investigate the materialisation and conceptions of cultural heritage environments based on their dissemination through different types of campaigns and in popular culture.

Progressive specialisation: G1N (has only upper‐secondary level entry requirements)

Education level: Undergraduate level

Admission requirements: Field-specific eligibility A1 (History 1b or 1a1+1a2, Civics 1b or 1a1+1a2) or field-specific eligibility 1 (History A, Civics A)

Selection:

Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
