Feminist Jurisprudence
7.5 ECTS creditsThe course explores the relationship between law, gender, sexuality, and power through feminist legal theory. Students gain insight into fundamental feminist critiques of legal systems, including how laws have historically reinforced gender inequality and how they can be reformed to promote justice. The course examines how legal experiences and outcomes are shaped by gender together with other social factors such as race, class, sexuality, and disability. Students are given the opportunity to critically analyse case law, legislation, and policy debates in order to assess legal systems from a feminist perspective, as well as learn to read legal texts. The course addresses issues such as reproductive rights, workplace equality, family law, sexual harassment, and violence against women and minorities.
