Introduction to global gender studies
7.5 ECTS creditsThe course provides an overview of the three subject areas: gender studies, human rights, and global studies. Students acquire basic knowledge of the central concepts and perspectives that are essential for understanding how these fields interact. From a gender studies perspective, the course presents how concepts within the field of human rights are understood and applied in a global context. Students are introduced, for example, to the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and similar international agreements. Furthermore, students discuss how to translate theory into practice for social change. Through practical exercises, students develop basic skills in conducting simple information searches and critically interpreting the information they collect.
