Classical Field Theory7.5 ECTS credits
The course starts with a thorough treatment of the phase space formulation of classical dynamical systems. It then continues with a description of how systems with first and second class constraints are analyzed using both Dirac's method and the BRST method. Important applications such as the Maxwell theory of electromagnetism, Yang-Mills theories and Einstein's theory of gravity are included, together with the geometrical description of these theories.
Progressive specialisation: A1N (has only first‐cycle course/s as entry requirements)
Education level: Master's level
Admission requirements: For admission to the course knowledge corresponding to 60 hp mathematics and 60 hp physics is required. A course in analytical mechanics is recommended.
Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
