Crime fiction: Literary origins and classics

The course provides an introduction to English crime fiction and its historical development. The course offers an overview of the development of the genre. Students read key works in the form of predecessors to the genre as well as significant and transformative classics within the genre. The focus is on historical and contextual aspects, as well as the study of specific texts.

Instruction is in the form of lectures and seminars. The course includes mandatory written assignments. Towards the end of the course, students work on an independent project reviewed in a seminar.

Progressive specialisation: G1N (has only upper‐secondary level entry requirements)

Education level: Undergraduate level

Admission requirements: General entry requirements plus upper secondary level English 6 or English level 2. An equivalence assessment can be made.

Selection: Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
