Fantasy literature: Origins, classics, and the development of a genre
7.5 ECTS creditsThe course covers the history of fantasy literature in English, from the roots of the genre in folktales, myths, and legends, via the great fantasy classics of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, up until the trends and tendencies in fantasy literature today. The course also provides a basic overview of literary concepts and approaches used in fantasy research. Novels and short stories from different periods are read and discussed using relevant theoretical perspectives.
Instruction is in the form of lectures and seminar discussions. In seminars, students present and discuss their own literary analyses.
