Introductory Course in Dance Movement Therapy (DMT)

The aim of the course is to provide students with a general overview of dance and movement as therapeutic tools. Students develop a basic understanding of Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) by integrating theoretical instruction and practical exercises.

The course covers the following:

• The history and development of Dance Movement Therapy
• A few key concepts related to methods in Dance Movement Therapy
• A few basic approaches in Dance Movement Therapy
• Communication through body, dance, and movement
• Using creativity, imagination, and play in Dance Movement Therapy
• Deliberative perspectives on dance, health, and creativity

Instruction is in various forms. Students take an active part by writing their own process journal, attending mandatory seminars and workshops, and participating in group projects and deliberative discussions (in speech and writing). Lectures alternate with a main course component of practical work based on body, dance, and movement. On-campus instruction is focused mainly on experience-based learning.

Selection: Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
