Practical course in Biology
15 ECTS credits
The course is designed to provide work experience at a workplace where biology knowledge is useful. Students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in their previous studies. They also gain familiarity with how biology-related work is organised and performed at a company or a public agency. The placement and field mentor must meet the approval of Karlstad University prior to the placement period.
The course comprises the following components:
- mandatory introduction at Karlstad University
- eight to nine weeks at the workplace, including the completion of an independent task of applying biology knowledge
- continuous documentation of the work in a journal, describing reflectively what they do and what is happening at the workplace with reference to relavant literature such as steering documents, reports and investigations in the area
- a week in which the work performed at the practical placement is compiled for written and oral presentation.

Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
