Writing Workshop for PhD students
This half-day workshop is a university-wide graduate workshop at Karlstad University.
While the workshop is open to all doctoral students writing in English at any time during their studies, it is of particular value to those at the beginning of their studies.
Background
The international research community places heavy demands on doctoral students’ written expression. To help meet those demands, this workshop is designed to raise awareness of the sort of textual support that readers require.
Workshop goals
- To help participants to experience readers’ demands on their writing
- To help participants meet these demands by, for example, reworking paragraphs and sentences and looking at word choice.
Periodicity
The workshop runs on a continual basis, with between two and four participants. Dates are set by mutual agreement.
To apply
Applicants should email languagesupport@kau.se with a text excerpt from their ongoing research. Ideally, these pages will be from either the discussion or the literature review sections of an academic paper, or 2-3 pages from either the literature review or discussion section of a monograph. Applicants will be contacted shortly after their applications have been received.

Applicants must have been admitted to a research education program at Karlstad University
