Meet Neshe Tuna, PhD student in Information Systems!
2025-11-11Neshe Tuna is a PhD student in Information Systems at Karlstad University. Her research explores how co-creation and communities can drive innovation in complex environments where technology, policy, and culture intersect.
Hi Neshe, can you tell us about your research?
– I study how co-creation and communities can drive innovation, especially in contexts where technology, policy, and culture meet. I want to understand what happens when new innovations and collaborations challenge established ways of working. The goal is to create better conditions for innovations to grow, spread, and become sustainable. I believe in the power of technology to create positive change, and I love exploring new ideas. In a complex world, solutions need to be shaped together – it’s about understanding both technology and human contexts.
Neshe Tuna began her PhD studies in May 2025. She most recently worked at the Compare Foundation, where she focused on innovation management, project development, and partnerships. She has previously worked as a journalist and holds a degree in economics.
What made you apply for the PhD position – and to CTF?
– I’ve always been curious about what drives change. Through my work, I’ve seen how challenging – yet powerful – collaboration can be. Becoming a PhD student felt like a natural step to deepen my understanding of these issues.
– I’ve collaborated with researchers from CTF over the past few years and have been inspired by how their research connects to societal impact through partnerships with organisations, businesses, and public actors. It feels meaningful to now be part of that environment. I look forward to contributing to and learning from the interdisciplinary culture at CTF.
And in your free time – what do you enjoy most?
– I prefer spending my free time with my husband and our eight-year-old son – my greatest inspiration – preferably in the forests of Värmland. I also enjoy rereading some of my favourite books, like 1984, Murder on the Orient Express, and Pride and Prejudice – and I’m fascinated every time.
