Sustainable production through AI-controlled forging furnace.
For many companies in the metal industry, material waste is a significant challenge. A major reason for this is a relatively low degree of automation, which is often due to the fact that for important process steps either automation solutions are completely lacking, or that the existing solutions are not good enough. However, the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) in the last decade has shown great potential to lead to the creation of very powerful automatic systems for various types of industrial processes, including metal processing.
The project's goal is to create a prototype of an AI-based process control system that with high precision can autonomously control a forging line in such a way that the bar bill's temperature, just before forging, falls within the temperature range that optimizes the forged component's quality.
The project will also generate general knowledge that will be disseminated and thereby contribute to economic, social and environmental sustainability also in other parts of the Swedish process industry.
