Workshop: Integrating climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction and city planning
2014-10-31Welcome to a workshop at Karlstad university, November 25, where we address sustainability and resilience aspects of the interesting city of Baltimore, US. You will meet Kristin Baja, Climate and Resilience Planner at the Baltimore Office of Sustainability.
The workshop includes presentations and discussions around how to include and integrate climate adaptation, disaster risk-reduction, energy saving, and empowerment of marginal neighbourhoods in the city planning. We will hear about the Disaster Preparedness Plan and other planning instruments developed in Baltimore. In a discussion we share experiences about how to plan society across sectors in US and Sweden.
We hope to gather local and regional practitioners as well as researchers for a fruitful discussion. Please forward this invitation to those who may be interested! The workshop is free of charge.

Kristin Baja has masters degrees in Urban Planning and Science, and is responsible for planning of resilience, climate adaptation and hazard mitigation at the Office of Sustainability in Baltimore. The Office of Sustainability develops and advocates for programs, policies, and actions by government, citizen, businesses, and institutions that improve the long-term environmental, social, and economic viability of Baltimore City. In addition to overseeing and tracking the implementation of the Baltimore Sustainability Plan, the Office integrates sustainability into City government operations and develops partnerships with ground performing related work.
