Spring 2025:
Seminar with Christian Persman, Project Manager and Quality Manager in Arvika
Title: Can AI-based tools contribute to better coordination of support for young people?
Friday 14 March at 10.00-12.00
Place: 1B364 Frödingsalen or Zoom: https://kau-se.zoom.us/j/61825602727
Description: In western Värmland, the ongoing work “Nära Vård Västra Värmland” is focused on two tracks. The Elderly Track and the Children and Youth Track. The focus of the work within young people - the Child and Youth Journey - is to coordinate efforts between care, health and school for children and young people with (and at risk of developing) mental illness. The goal is to make it easier for the individual and enable better use of resources. Part of this work is to explore the possibilities of integrating technical solutions in the form of AI-based tools into existing processes in order to improve attention, communication and follow-up. The project is a collaboration between the municipalities of Årjäng, Eda, Säffle and Arvika as well as Region Värmland, Karlstad University (CTF, CBU and computer science) and the Compare Foundation.
Open seminar, no pre-registration required.

Seminar with Carolina Överlien, Professor in Gender-Related Violence and Health at NCK, Uppsala University
Title: Violence in Young People’s Close Relationships, with a Special Focus on Sexual Violence
Date and Time: Friday, November 8, 10:00-11:30 via Zoom: https://kau-se.zoom.us/j/66780571666
For those interested, there is an opportunity to follow the seminar together in room 5A308C (limited number of seats).
No pre-registration required!
Language: Swedish
The lecture will be based on research on violence in young people’s close relationships, with a special focus on sexual violence. The starting point is a series of research studies on violence, which clearly show the importance of specifically addressing sexual violence. This is a form of violence that is taboo and has great potential for harm in many different ways for those who are exposed. Voices from young people who have been exposed, as well as young men who have exposed others, will be included.
Carolina Överlien is a professor in gender-related violence and health at NCK, Uppsala University. She has researched children and young people in vulnerable life situations for many years, and in the last 10 years, especially on violence in young people’s close relationships. Carolina has published a large number of scientific articles on children and violence, released several books, and is a co-editor of the Journal of Family Violence.

Two seminars on Project Support, an evidence-based intervention for families exposed to violence where the child has developed problem-creating behaviors.
The method is used in the social services. One of the founders of the method, Professor Renee McDonald, will be appointed honorary doctor at Karlstad University on 18 October. In connection with this, there will be an opportunity to meet her, partly at a workshop and network meeting for former participants in the contract education on Project support on October 16 and partly at a seminar/webinar that does not require prior knowledge of the method on October 17 and which will be arranged together with CBU.
