Stuart Wagland, Energy and Environmental Chemistry
Dr Stuart Wagland is a Reader in Energy and Environmental Chemistry at Cranfield University, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and a leading global authority on the advanced thermochemical conversion of complex waste feedstocks into circular chemicals and fuels. His pioneering research focuses on breaking the scientific 'black box' of waste transformation through first-principles chemical diagnostics across the redox spectrum. Dr Wagland possesses a significant track record of delivering impactful solutions for high-profile partners and is currently managing a research portfolio utilising advanced thermochemical conversion of wastes to meet Net Zero targets whilst also tackling microplastics and emerging contaminants.
What would you like to contribute to the conference?
– To future-proof biosolids management, we must shift from empirical technology deployment to an agnostic, systematic approach driven by fundamental chemistry. Pioneering first-principles diagnostics to deepen mechanistic understanding is not abstract science; it is the vital operational tool required to ensure definitive PFAS destruction and unlock Net Zero opportunities.
