Per Tomani, RISE
Per Tomani received a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from KTH in Stockholm in 1989. He joined the former Swedish Pulp & Paper Institute, STFI, in 1991.Over the years, he has worked on various aspects related to kraft pulping, lignin separation, lignin valorization, and business development. He is one of the co-inventors of the kraft lignin separation process LignoBoost.
Per Tomani served as CTO and was responsible for scaling up the LignoBoost process, which was demonstrated in Bäckhammar, Sweden. Following the demonstration, and after the LignoBoost technology was sold to Metso (now Valmet), he led the development of the site into what is now known as LignoCity. This is an open technology infrastructure operated by RISE, with some activities carried out in close collaboration with regional actors.
Today, he works as Director of Business Development, Pulp Mills & Lignin. He also serves as Scientific Lead in the Emission-Free Pulping program, jointly hosted by VTT and RISE (www.emissionfreepulping.com). The program currently includes 28 researchers (PhD students and postdoctoral researchers) in Sweden and Finland, focusing on maximizing fiber and product yield from wood—aiming for maximum carbon efficiency.
