Introduction Week
The Introduction Week for international students includes social, cultural, and practical activities designed to help you settle in smoothly at the university, in student life, and in Sweden as a whole. The week starts one week before the official start of the semester.
You’ll have the chance to make new friends, explore campus life, and join events organized by the Karlstad Student Union. The university also offers seminars on study techniques, library and student services, and essential practical information to make your transition easier. Make the most of it! These activities are your first step toward a successful and enjoyable start at Karlstad University.
Arrival Days
During Arrival Days, university staff will welcome you and help you settle into your new life in Karlstad and Sweden. A shuttle service will be available to take you to your student accommodation. Please note that this service runs only during Arrival Days.
We do not offer a shuttle service from the airport. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation from the airport to Karlstad.
Welcome Ceremony
The Introduction Week begins with a formal Welcome Ceremony for new international students at Karlstad University.
You will be welcomed by representatives from the university, including the Pro Vice-Chancellor, the Karlstad Student Union, Karlstad Municipality, and student associations. The ceremony is followed by traditional Swedish fika, and all new students will receive a welcome bag.
New Student Lectures
During Introduction Week, you will participate in new student seminars covering essential practical and academic information to help you get started at Karlstad University. The lectures include presentations about KAU-ID and MyKAU, safety on campus, your student accommodation, studying at the university, and life in Sweden.
You will also receive information about culture shock and student support services, including Student Health Services, the University Chaplaincy, the University Library, and English language support. There will be opportunities to ask questions during the sessions.
Host Student Programme
To help you settle into Karlstad and get familiar with the city, Karlstad University offers a Host Student Programme in collaboration with the Student Union. Host students support new international students with practical matters and introduce them to student life and everyday life in Sweden.
During Introduction Week, host students will guide you on tours of the campus and the city, and invite you to join various social events, making it easier to make friends and feel at home from day one.
