School leadership training at Karlstad University includes recruitment training for prospective principals, the National School Leadership Training Programme, continuing professional development for principals, training for principals of folk high schools or schools of arts in collaboration with the National Agency for Education and Samverkan för bästa skola, SBS (Collaboration for Better Schools). Collaboration also takes place through conferences and seminars.
Together with municipalities and universities, RUC (Regionalt utvecklingscentrum) has organised several professional development initiatives over the past twenty years. The form of collegial learning that has developed over time within RUC means that teachers gather for seminar days at Karlstad University to contribute to an exchange of experiences and take part in current research. The seminar days are spread out over a period of one and a half years (eight occasions in total). Between the seminar days, learning takes place in the schools where the teachers are active.
RUC’s initiatives in the form of networks are based on collegial learning and aim to establish and strengthen structures that provide the conditions for continued development work – even after the initiative in question has ended. The activities are based on preschool/school curricula and pupils’ goal attainment. The initiatives are planned and implemented by RUC and strengthened by the fact that school development is carried out together with professional teachers and school leaders.
Pedagog Värmland aims to promote and contribute to the development of schools’ activities and teaching. The website is aimed at all teachers and school leaders from preschool to adult education, as well as teacher educators and researchers.
Pedagog Värmland is run by RUC (Regionalt utvecklingscentrum) at Karlstad University – a formalised network between the university and participating municipalities in the region.
The network is aimed at researchers in Sweden who study school governance, organisation and leadership.
