Open access deal - Emerald

Please note – update 2026-10-26: The agreement with Emerald has a yearly cap of 192 prepaid articles from Swedish higher education institutions. This cap has now almost been reached. Any additional articles accepted for publishing from the point at which the cap is reached through 31 December 2026 must be funded outside the agreement. Emerald and the national library consortium Bibsam have made an agreement which gives Karlstad University researchers the opportunity to publish open access free of charge in any of Emerald's journals. The agreement is valid from 2025 through 2027.

How does it work?

  • Use your KaU email and affiliation already when submitting your manuscript.
  • You submit your manuscript via the system ScholarOne. There, choose the option: "Yes, I want to publish my article as Open Access".
  • When your manuscript has been accepted for publishing you will receive an email from Emerald asking you to complete and send the license agreement to Emerald.
