Mechanical and materials engineering
Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering, together with Electrical Engineering and Physics, comprise the Department of Engineering and Physics.
Our activities span a broad area and cover all aspects of the product development process – design, function, strength and properties of materials, as well as manufacture and production.
We are located in Vänern, Karlstad University’s technology building, where we have access to modern, well-equipped workshops and laboratories for research and education in materials science.
We train Bachelor’s and Master’s students in the area of mechanical engineering, and offer Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in mechanical engineering as well as a doctorate in materials engineering.
The CMM (Characterization and Modelling of Materials) research group currently conducts research projects on fatigue processes at very long life times, micro inclusions in steel, mechanical characteristics of cutting tools, wear during sheet forming and characteristics of single paper fibres.
We view collaboration with the community as a natural part of our activities, and it takes the form of assignments, student projects, degree projects, research projects, etc.
