Karlstad Lean Factory
KLF Karlstad Lean Factory® - A regional laboratory for Lean Production at Karlstad University, Sweden.
Karlstad University has designed and built a unique training environment for Lean Production. The laboratory consists of a flexible full-scale physical simulation environment. Apart from being a training facility, it is a meeting place for regional companies and academia, creating opportunities for organization and realization of efficient knowledge transfer. It is also used as a research facility, where issues such as training transfer, cultural change and inclusion are studied.
In a project called KLF2, the simulator environment is available for regional industry as a resource for testing innovative production solutions. When a company wants to use KLF as a testbed for future production solutions, the company's employees model the future production in KLF according to method called "participatory modelling and simulation" that stimulates co-production of new knowledge.
The work is part of Europe 2020 prioritized area “Strengthening research, technological development and innovation”, with a goal to create smart growth in the Swedish Värmland region. The project is carried out within the area of strategic specialization “Advanced manufacturing and complex systems” formulated in VRIS3: Värmland Research and Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialization.
The work has been previously co-funded by the EU (European Regional Development Fund) via Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, Region Värmland, and Karlstad University.
