Daniel Cuesta
Master Programme in Management: Sustainable Value Creation
Daniel Cuesta, how well has the start of the programme met your academic expectations?
– Very well. I was looking for a curriculum that connects core management strategy with practical, real-world business challenges, and the coursework delivers on that. The focus on modern business practices goes beyond theory, encouraging us to look closely at how organizations function and create value, which matches nicely with my general interests.
What aspects of the teaching and learning environment have been most supportive for your studies?
– The collaborative relationship between professors and students, and the strong link to real business cases. Professors at Karlstad Business School encourage critical thinking, active participation and open dialogue rather than just traditional lectures. I truly believe that teamwork is a fundamental pillar for professional development and Karlstad Business School integrates this approach exceptionally well. Additionally, studying alongside peers from diverse academic fields and backgrounds has made this experience even more enriching.
You’ve just arrived here in Karlstad and Sweden – what are your impressions of life here so far?
– Moving here has been a smooth and positive experience so far. Karlstad offers a good balance between a calm, natural environment and a solid university community. Between local parks, walking paths, and various spots to check out in town, it’s easy to find things to do. The daily pace of life is comfortable and people are friendly, making it a great environment not just for studying but also for living.
How has Karlstad University helped you integrate socially and culturally as a new international student?
– Karlstad University has done an exceptional job of welcoming international students from day one. Through orientation events before and after arrival, student hosting groups, and multicultural campus events, such as painting workshops, international sharing cuisine, sport events, among some others, Karlstad University was straightforward to connect with people from all over the world. Additionally, faculty and staff are also incredibly approachable and understanding of the adjustment period that comes with relocating internationally. Engaging with both local Swedish culture and the international student community has made the transition smooth and memorable.
In what ways is your programme contributing to your personal or professional development?
– Coming from a background in psychology and project management, this programme serves as a great bridge for my career. Professionally, it allows me to combine my experience in managing projects and understanding human behaviour with higher-level business strategies. This combination helps me approach organizational challenges balancing structured execution with a strong focus on people and change management. Personally, combining my background with an international academic experience is strengthening my adaptability, cross-cultural communication, and problem-solving skills, helping me grow into a more well-rounded and versatile professional
