Post-digital labour geographies and social relations

Digitalization has significantly shaped work and workplaces. In recent decades, new forms of mediatized labor have emerged, including digital labor, platform work, and digital housekeeping, alongside evolving work ethics that both reflect and reinforce a broader societal backlash against digitalization, or a “disconnection turn”.
In the post-digital world, where digital media are simultaneously ubiquitous and critiqued, “disconnected” or screen-free work modes, technologies, and spaces have gained traction – particularly among certain groups.
At Geomedia, we critically examine the intricate relationship between technology (non-)use, place, and social dynamics within various work contexts, such as coworking spaces, newsrooms, the creative industries, gig labor, and domestic work.
