DAMI Workshop: Digitalization meets complex manufacturing industries – opportunities and challenges

Digitalisation and Key Enabling Techniques such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics and Software Engineering have a tremendous potential to change industries. However, many companies struggle to apply those techniques in their daily operations and miss to utilize them for their full benefit.
In this workshop, renowned academic experts and practitioners from leading companies come together to discuss current best practices and give an outlook into future potential of those techniques focusing on swedish production companies.
The workshop is connected to the startup of regular activities of the DAMI4.0 (Digital Adaptive Manufacturing for Industry4.0) center at KAU.

Jan Bosch
Professor of Software Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology and Director Swedish Software Center.
Jan Bosch is professor at Chalmers University Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden and director of the Software Center (www.software-center.se), a strategic partner-funded collaboration between 17 large European companies (including Ericsson, Volvo Cars, Volvo Trucks, Saab Defense, Scania, Siemens and Bosch) and five universities focused on digitalization. Earlier, he worked as Vice President Engineering Process at Intuit Inc where he also led Intuit's Open Innovation efforts and headed the central mobile technologies team. Before Intuit, he was head of the Software and Application Technologies Laboratory at Nokia Research Center, Finland. Prior to joining Nokia, he headed the software engineering research group at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. He received a MSc degree from the University of Twente, The Netherlands, and a PhD degree from Lund University, Sweden.
Daniel Gillblad
Director Chalmers AI Center – CHAIR and Co-Director AI Sweden
Daniel Gillblad is co-Director of Scientific Vision for AI Sweden and Director of the Chalmers AI Research Center (CHAIR). He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the Royal Institute of Technology, has led development efforts and worked on strategy development for Swedish companies, has been part of setting up several AI startups, and served as an appointed member of the Swedish Government collaboration program on digitalisation and as an appointed expert in the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI). His research interests are focused around Machine Learning, large-scale Data Mining and their practical applications

Marko Yli-Pietilä
Leading Smart Operations, Stora Enso
Marko Yli-Pietilä is an experienced Digital Transformation professional. Today he is Head of Smart Operations in Stora Enso, which means digitalising operations to improve operational efficiency. Prior to joining Stora Enso, Marko has held international positions for example in Nokia and Teradata, which are leaders in their respective industries of Telecommunications and Advanced Analytics. He has also worked with renewable materials companies and their digitalisation related development programs for years as a Consultant. Marko holds a Licentiate of Technology post-graduate degree and he is also a certified vocational teacher.
