Visit by Stephen Osborne
2014-09-04We caught up with Professor Stephen Osborne, Chair of International Public Management and Deputy Dean of the Business School at University of Edinburgh, who is visiting us this week to meet with researchers Johan Quist and Martin Fransson.
Hello Professor Osborne, and welcome to CTF! What brings you to
CTF, and what kind of research are you working on right now?
- CTF is rightly renowned for its research work on service and services delivery so it is a great opportunity for me to connect with an important group of researchers in the field. As you will know my work is concerned with managing public services delivery. The last five years I have been working with colleagues in my field to develop an alternative, service based, approach to this. The dominant model in the discipline (New Public Management) draws upon industrial and manufacturing theory. We are developing an alternative – the public service-dominant logic. Researchers at CTF have been coming to this from the other end of the spectrum – starting with service theory and moving to public services. So the potential for synergy and creative contacts between is is very exciting!
