Joann Peck Visiting Professor2013-12-09
Joann Peck has been appointed Visiting Professor at CTF. The Visiting professorship is funded by Anne-Marie and Gustaf Ander Foundation for Media Research, which provide grants to cover the cost of a visiting professor at the CTF for a month during the next three years.
- I am so excited to be invited as a Visiting professor at CTF and Karlstad University. I have been fortunate to work with Anders Gustafsson at CTF on several projects in various retail settings. I look forward to both continuing and expanding this work both with Anders Gustafsson and with other researchers and students at CTF. My work has a direct relationship with service since I study sensory marketing, and specifically the sense of touch. This includes both product touch and interpersonal touch. I look forward to spending more time in Karlstad and to pursuing further research projects. I am truly honored to be invited as a visiting professor!
Joann Peck is an Associate Professor in the Marketing Department and the Associate Dean of the undergraduate program at the Wisconsin School of Business, University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, her MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her PhD from the University of Minnesota-all schools with furry little mascots.
Her primary research focus is on haptics (the sense of touch) and consumer behavior. She started off working on product touch and specifically the individual differences in motivation to touch, product category differences and situations that either encouraged or discouraged pre-purchase touch by consumers. Her most recent project focuses on interpersonal touch and examines comfort with both initiating and receiving touch.
Her research has been published in the Journal of Consumer Research, the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Consumer Psychology, the Journal of Business Research, and the Journal of Retailing. Peck’s research has been cited in Forbes, U.S. News and World Report, Time.com, the Canadian Broadcast Company and others.
After finishing her undergraduate degree, Joann Peck taught high school math for five years. She has also taught at every level from preschool (a cooking class at the YMCA) to executive education and has earned various teaching awards.
