Focus on the Future of the Music Industry as Mirac Met at Stockholm Music Week
2026-05-05Mirac, the Music‑focused Interdisciplinary Research and Analysis Center, is a non‑profit association founded in 2013 at Stockholm University that conducts research on the music industry and musical life. Jenny Karlsson from the Service Research Center (CTF) is a board member and participated in Stockholm Music Week.
You took part in Stockholm Music Week – what topics were discussed at the conference?
– On Friday, my colleagues and I from Mirac participated in the session “The Future of Music,” where the future of the music industry was discussed with a focus on AI, new business models, rights, and technology, says Jenny Karlsson. Participants included Björn Ulvaeus and Benjamin Ingrosso, who emphasized AI’s potential as a creative tool, but also the need for human expertise and the importance of developing legal frameworks around AI. Ludvig Andersson, producer of ABBA Voyage, provided concrete examples of how immersive technology can shape music experiences—an area that is also central to my own research. Altogether, the day highlighted key strategic challenges for the industry’s continued development and for Mirac’s research efforts.
Mirac organizes conferences, publishes books, and builds networks to stimulate collaboration between academia and the music industry on current issues—such as AI and the evolution of music. Within Mirac, researchers, industry professionals, and other stakeholders can meet to exchange ideas, create dialogue, and disseminate research‑based knowledge and industry experience.
– My role on Mirac’s board is to contribute insights and knowledge about value‑creation processes, innovation, and customer experiences, and about how the music industry ecosystem—artists, fans, and other actors—drives engagement and enables innovative solutions, explains Jenny Karlsson.
When will Mirac’s next conference be held?
– It will take place in Stockholm on 25–26 November, and the theme will be Artificial Intelligence in the Service of Music?
