Feminist perspectives on racism and antiracism
Through the intersectional turn, issues of racism and antiracism become crucial in feminist research and activism. Understanding the centrality of different experiences of racism has added to a transformation of the field of gender studies, in a variety of aspects: epistemologically, theoretically, methodologically and politically. Postcolonial, decolonial and antiracist perspectives in feminism are today vital for attending to the ways in which we define and conceptualize subjects of feminist scholarship and struggles. At the same time, as gender studies have been transformed by these perspectives, feminist interventions into theories of racism, critical race theories or post- and decolonial theories have contributed to centering the concepts of gender and sexuality in these perspectives.
More recently, due to the growing attacks on critical scholarship from the far right, we trace another way in which feminism and antiracism are intrinsically linked when they often are targeted together. These attacks might have an impact on feminist antiracist scholarship, something that needs our attention.
The panel invites presentations by feminist scholars working with issues of race and racism. We are interested in bringing together scholars approaching these issues in a variety of ways, both when it comes to material and methods, theoretical approaches as well as topics, scales, sites and fields.
