Endless possibilities and hot research topics - media and communication studies
André Jansson has been a researcher at Karlstad University for the past 15 years. In addition to being a researcher, he is the head of subject in media and communication studies, one of the Nordic countries highest ranking research institutions in the field. He is now in the midst of finding a new colleague to join their team.
Karlstad University has recently initiated an effort to develop the university’s existing research and is now hiring associate senior lecturers in line with this initiative. This will also increase the quality of the courses and study programmes connected to the various subject areas.
Research in media and communication studies is focused on two main fields of study.
- We specialise in research in Geomedia and NODE, News and Opinion in the Digital Era, says André. We want to understand the change that comes with new, digital media. Conditions change rapidly and it is important to keep up.
University size and closeness matters
André also points out that an advantage of conducting research at Karlstad University is the size of the university. It is small enough to stay close to research in other subjects, which facilitates multidisciplinary research. It is easy to collaborate and there are excellent conditions for both accessing and sharing knowledge.
The hope is that the successful candidate will become a key person for research in the discipline at Karlstad University. The person should be able to contribute with new perspectives to visual communication and design, and build bridges between research and education.
- We hope that the new associate senior lecturer will have a strong drive and be able to take charge and further our research and educational activities. Our team also want to become even better in areas where we are already doing a good job in order to strengthen our position in the field.
Plenty of time for research
The associate senior lecturer will be welcomed by a flexible workplace. There is room to take initiative and be creative regarding seminar series, workshops and conferences. A lot of time will be spent on research. The fact that the position contains as much as time for research as it does makes it unique.
