You can apply for most independent courses and programs at undergraduate and advanced level that start in the spring semester via antagning.se during the application period September 15 to October 15.
- antagning.se (in Swedish)
Please note that even if you are admitted to a program, you need to register for the next semester's courses no later than April 15 and October 15, respectively.
Does it matter whether I apply for an on-campus or distance education program?
Yes, it matters a lot. If you apply to a program or course that is offered on campus, it means that you will study on-site at our university. If you apply to a program or course that is offered remotely, it may mean that you will study entirely or mostly from home. But it may also mean many face-to-face meetings at the university or the learning center location you have applied to. To find out what applies to the particular program you have applied for, see information on the program's website.
Why might it be good to write the university entrance exam?
If a selection must be made for a program, i.e. if there are more eligible applicants than there are places, you can compete in both the grade selection and the exam selection if you have a result from a university entrance exam. This increases your chances of being accepted to a program with many applicants.
I do not meet the basic or specific qualifications, can I apply for recognition of prior learning?
Yes, you can apply for recognition of prior learning.
You can apply for recognition of prior learning or exemption if you completely or partially lack the formal qualifications required in a prerequisite.
If you want to apply for recognition of prior learning, you will find instructions on how to proceed here.
I forgot to apply on time, how does this affect my chances of being accepted to a program/course?
First check whether the course is open for late registration. If it is, it is possible to make a late registration. All late registrations for a course/programme are placed in strict order on the reserve list after the date on which the late registration was made and was complete. It is difficult to be admitted through late registration to courses and programmes that have many applicants.
What is the required merit/results from university entrance exams to be admitted?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to say in advance what merit value/results from higher education examinations are required for admission, as it depends on how many people apply for the programme and their merit value/results from higher education examinations.
To get an idea of what merit value/results from higher education examinations have been required in previous admission rounds, you can search the Swedish Council for Higher Education's admission statistics (in Swedish).
What regulations govern admissions at Karlstad University?
How students are admitted to Karlstad University is governed by the so-called admissions regulations.
What happens if I forget to accept my acceptance letter?
If you forget to accept your acceptance letter, your application will be cancelled. If the program you have been cancelled from is still open for late application, you can apply again via www.antagning.se (in Swedish). Your application will then be considered a late application and you will be accepted subject to space availability.
When can I activate my student account?
The student account, or KauID as it is also called, is created at the earliest about two to three weeks before the start of the course. You cannot activate your student account earlier than that.
