MFA
MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION (MFA) IS INTRODUCED ON KAUID FOR SERVICES WITHIN MICROSOFT 365.
Today's digital world places increasing demands on you to protect your digital identities. Hopefully you already do this for your important private accounts, but you also need to do it for your KauID at Karlstad University.
Why should I activate MFA as a student?
It is important to protect your digital identity so that no one else can access it. By activating MFA on your KauID using the Microsoft Authenticator mobile app, you can strengthen the protection of your account at Karlstad University.
We will continuously launch more services in Microsoft 365 for students and it will be required that you have activated MFA in order to use the new services.
Microsoft requires MFA when logging in to its services.
In the future, Microsoft will require that MFA is activated in order for you to use Microsoft 365. Therefore, take the opportunity to activate it now.
How do I activate MFA?
If you have activated your student account before 2025-01-01, please follow the guide Activate MFA for existing students which can be found in the document list on the right of this page.
If you have activated your account after 2025-01-01, please follow the Activate MFA for new students guide which can be found in the document list on the right of this page.
I have changed my phone and the new one does not have the MFA setup!
When changing phones, make sure to add MFA to your new phone before getting rid of your old phone. See the guide Adding MFA for Microsoft 365 to a second device on the right of this page.
If you no longer have your old mobile phone, or for some reason have lost the possibility of MFA on your existing mobile phone, you need to visit the Welcome Centre or call the student support 054 700 16 95 (opening hours 11-13) for help with restoring MFA. In both cases, you need to be able to verify your identity with a valid ID. When calling, the identity check is done via video link.
