The bioeconomy consists of those parts of the economy that use renewable biological resources such as forests, crops, fish, animals and microorganisms to produce food, materials and energy. The forest-based bioeconomy uses raw materials from the forrest that are processed into products such as packaging, paper and houses, but also services and processes.
Forrest-based bioeconomy is one of six specializations within the Research and Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialization in the Region of Värmland.
The European Union describes bioeconomy like this
