Learning Swedish
Although Karlstad University is a workplace where most people speak English and where important information is available in English, learning Swedish is important in order to be able to fulfill your obligations long term as an employee. To support you in learning Swedish, the university offers Swedish tuition for international employees in different ways. The allocation of hours on learning Swedish is planned together with your head of department.
Swedish Language Course for International Employees at Karlstad University
The Department of language, literature and interculture offers Swedish Tuition Groups. The aim of the language tuition groups is to give international employees the opportunity to acquire basic knowledge and skills in the Swedish language and/or to improve their ability to communicate in Swedish both within and outside academia.
Swedish language course for Immigrants (SFI) offered by Karlstad municipality
SFI is a Swedish language course for people who have a different mother tongue in which you can be enrolled in for at most three years. At SFI, you learn to read, write, speak, listen to and understand Swedish. The course is free of charge. and starts five times per calendar year. There are three different levels, study paths. Which study path you should take depends on your previous education.

Another way of learning Swedish is of course to use language apps. There are a number to choose from, some free and some costs money.
