Leo’s current research interests include manufacturing engineering and technologies, integrated product development, human factors in engineering, and lean production
Leo’s earlier research focused on computer aided process planning for sheet metal components. Leo developed an analytical simulation model for air bending and a method to address tolerances during planning of bending sequences. Through his work on process planning, he developed an interest for integrated product development and concurrent engineering. His research further interests include human factors in engineering, industrial informatics, and sustainable manufacturing. More recent work has been related to virtual manufacturing, optimisation, and information fusion for decision support.
Currently, Leo has initiated research on how to train industrial workers in lean manufacturing and how this can stimulate the innovation capacity of a company or company network.

Bio
Leo J. De Vin is a Professor of Manufacturing Engineering at Karlstad University, Sweden and formerly a Professor of Automation Engineering at the University of Skövde, Sweden. He also is an unsalaried Associate Professor in Computer Science at the University of Örebro, Sweden. He obtained his PhD with a thesis on Computer Aided Process Planning in 1994 from the University of Twente, The Netherlands. He worked at the University of Ulster at Jordanstown, UK before joining the University of Skövde as a Lecturer in Integrated Product Development and later founded the Virtual Systems Research Centre, who are Preferred Research Partner under the Volvo Group Academic Partner Program in the area of Virtual Manufacturing. He joined the Materials and Design Centre of Karlstad University in 2011. Leo has authored more than 100 scientific publications and a large number of trade journal contributions and technical papers in Sweden, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Italy, and USA.
