Problem solving in preschool class When children can not read or write, which mathematics can one work with then? Working with problem solving in preschool class can be challenging, exciting, educational and rewarding for both students and teachers. The project shows that it is desirable and fun to let the preschool class mathematics teaching to be based on problem solving

Professional development on Facebook (Dnr 2015-01979) enlightens questions related to teachers' continuous professional development. Professional development for teachers has long been initiated and organized top-down, initiated by the government, authorities and representatives of municipalities. The recent rapid development of forums on social media where both larger and smaller groups of people gather, as well as an easy way to discuss common concerns, have created informal learning environments for teachers - initiated, designed and entirely driven by the teachers themselves.

LISA The purpose of this project is to investigate the impact of different instructional strategies on student learning in secondary school. Student achievement data in mathematics and reading is combined with data from classroom video observations and student questionnaires.

Bio

Jorryt van Bommel is an associated professor at Karlstad University in Mathematics Education. She also works as a professor II at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences and as a guest professor at Dalarna University. 


Previously she worked as a teacher in the Netherlands, Namibia and Sweden, both at primary and secondary school. For over twenty years, she has worked in teacher education at Karlstad University, where she has been involved in teaching mathematics for future teachers at all levels. She has taught courses, developed curricular materials and worked with course development.

Within the scope of her PhD-studies Jorryt conducted a Learning Study on a teacher training course. The interest of primary and secondary schools to implement a Learning Study has been great and Jorryt has supervised around 40 different Learning Studies. 

She works with school development and research on 'problem solving in preschool class', where the teaching of mathematics in preschool class is in focus. In a new project, financed by the Swedish National Research Council, she paticipates to get to know more about teachers on social media. 

Further, Jorryt is involved in two research schools funded by the Swedish National research council: Käkk and GiftED

During 2016-2021 Jorryt was involved in two research projects, 'Professional development on Facebook', and 'LISA' (Linking instruction and student achievement), also funded by the Swedish National research council.
