Department of Language, Literature and Intercultural Studies

This is the ideal department for students who wish to immerse themselves in some form of language and cultural studies. Students come here to sharpen their communicative skills as well as expand their cultural understanding and improve their ability to analyse cultural objects and contexts – all important aspects of any future career. There is also the chance to study towards a degree in several subjects at Bachelor’s (first cycle) level as well as Master’s (second cycle) level.

Each section offers a wide variety of freestanding courses, both on campus and off, full-time or part-time. There are also evening and summer courses. The department also runs courses in the teacher-education programs.

Research in the department

Research in the department spans several fields. English and Comparative Literature are the disciplines in which doctoral studies (third cycle level) are offered. Many of the department’s teachers are involved in different research projects and some are part of various research groups and research environments. Several teachers are involved in The Centre for Language and Literature in Education (CSL), an umbrella group for teachers and researchers specialising in teaching methodology, and in KuFo, a strong research group in culture studies.
